Aviation Security Awareness

This NZCAA approved course has been developed for staff serving Airline Operations (Part 125, 121 Operations). It is applicable to any person holding an Aviation Security Card. This course covers an employees responsibility as an Avsec Card Holder, Regulatory requirements and actions to be taken in the event of a security incident. Basic Gas Turbine Knowledge

A very comprehensive course designed to prepare a student for the NZ ASL “Basic Gas Turbine” exam. With this in mind, you should time your enrolment to coincide with the ASL Exam timetable. Once enrolled in our BGT Knowledge course, you have 2 months unlimited access to the course. There are 10 practice exams available to you during this time. The cost of this course is NZ$170.50 (incl. Crew Resource Management - CRM

This comprehensive course is suitable for both an initial introduction to CRM and for that annual refresher. This is a vast subject and we have created this course so that it incorporates as many of the key factors contributing to good CRM as possible within the one course. Just reading the history and the reasons why CRM has been developed is enough to generate interest in completing the course. At the end of each module there are ‘test exams’ to enable you to monitor your understanding. An initial read of the course should take approximately 3 hours and we suspect that the majority of readers would go back to some modules for revision before attempting the exam. Designed for First Officers who are undertaking the transition to Captain and for the refresher course for Captains. It contains further in-depth material which is presented from a Command perspective. An additional 40 minutes should be allowed for this addition to the main course.

Dangerous Goods Awareness - Australia

The Dangerous Goods Awareness course is approved by the Australian CASA. Once completed you are able to handle Dangerous Goods that have already been processed by qualified agents. You will be able to recognise articles that may pose a hazard to aircraft or people and will have a good knowledge of what articles a person can take on board a passenger aircraft. You should allow at last 3 hours reading and studying the course material. An exam is available once you have read through the course. This is a multi-choice exam and a 80% pass mark is required. Once completed, the course is valid for 2 years. The cost of this course is NZ$98.00 (incl. GST)

Extended Diversion Time Operations - EDTO

This course has been developed for Operators who have pilots either ‘new’ to Extended Range Operations, or those requiring ‘refresher training’.   Being updated to NZCAA Part 121 amendment 21, this course is current and at its completion the reader will have an understanding of External Diversion Time Operations from the Operator approvals required through to the Piloting aspects of Flight Planning and Alternate requirements, Pre and In-Flight Procedures, as well as Contingency Procedures.  You should allow 2 hours to complete both the course and the final exam.  The cost of this course is NZ$96.00 (incl. Human Factors - Ground Crew

Applicable to ground staff who are working to support an Aircraft Operation It is designed to enhance Employees awareness of the Human Factors which could cause or contribute towards incidents, while at the same time providing the tools to recognise and manage threats, and to develop strategies to prevent and manage mistakes. Applicable to both Flight and Cabin crew, this course is designed for those operators who are introducing the Human Factors into their previous CRM training programs and/or for the individual crew member who wants to understand the influence that Human Factors have during a duty. It is designed to enhance Aircrew awareness of Human Factors which could cause, or exacerbate, incidents which affect the safe conduct of our air operations, while at the same time providing the tools to manage threats and develop strategies to prevent and manage crew error. A very comprehensive course ideally suited for maintenance staff as an introduction to Human Factors or for those wanting to refresh their knowledge. Readers of the course will learn the importance of Human Factor training to the industry, the relationship between Incidents and Human Factors (Errors) and appreciate the ‘Murphy’s Law’ aspect. It covers human capabilities and limitations in the workplace. Students should allow at least 3-4 hours for this course. This course was developed to meet the Department of Conservation requirements, and is approved by the Department of Conservation for aircraft operation to complete a “Noise Awareness’ course prior to being granted a concession to fly in ‘Noise Sensitive Areas’ under DOC control. This course covers Fixed Wing Operations with data gained from aircraft manufacturers. This course will take 2.5 hours to complete and the cost is NZ$96.00 (incl. GST)

This course is designed for those pilots preparing to operate into RVSM and RNP airspace. Assuming that at this stage in his or her career the reader is trained either in Airline Operations or High performance aircraft the course should take approximately 1hr 15 minutes to complete. South Pacific Airport Briefs

The airport briefs contain important information specific to the applicable Port. Typically the brief will contain information relating to Local Geography, Climate, Regulatory Requirements, Airspace, Approach & Departure Procedures and any specific Flight Planning requirements. These courses are often used to form part of the pre-flight planning brief. Time for each brief varies between 30 minutes to an hour. We currently have briefs for the following airports: Apia, Cairns, Canberra, Dunedin, Hobart, Honiara, Nadi, Norfolk Island, Pago Pago, Papeete, Port Moresby, Port Vila, Queenstown, Rarotonga, Sydney, Tonga, Tontouta, Townsville & Wellington. Volcanic Ash Operations

This course contains excellent information in regard to the hazards of inadvertent flight into Volcanic Ash Cloud. It contains real life examples and pilot comments from actual inadvertent flight into Ash cloud. Starting with the development and characteristics of Ash Cloud, including explaining the Volcanic Advisory Service and other warning reports then progressing through to an explain the real causes of the damage to engines, and aircraft generally makes this course interesting at the same time providing information and guidelines to assist a pilot in dealing with Volcanic Ash. The course should take approximately 1.5hrs, including the exam. The cost of this course is NZ$88.55 (incl. GST)

ADF/NDB Endorsement

After a re-write of the Instrument Rating course syllabus the ADF/NDB knowledge was removed as subject knowledge. Pilots can still get an ADF/NDB endorsement on their Instrument Rating after gaining the knowledge and demonstrating skill by passing a flight examiner test. This course covers AC61 – 17 Appendix IV ADF/NDB Theory Course Syllabus. We discuss the principles of operation, the ADF control panel, NDB bearings and tracking procedures. After successful completion we will provide you with a certificate and exam feedback to present to the flight examiner. The cost of this course is NZ$57.00 (incl. GST)

PERFORMANCE BASED NAVIGATION – PBN

This course contains the information required for the classroom element that is necessary for a Pilot to progress onto the Practical and Flight Training required for the issue of RNP Instrument Rating Privileges – RNP 1 and 2, RNP APCH and RNP APCH (AR). This course meets the requirements set in the NZ CAA Advisory Circular AC61-17 Appendix III – PBN Knowledge. The course explains the principals of RNAV/RNP/GNSS systems. It discusses Approach design, RNP requirements and display logic in a manner that is easily understood. When you register, you have the option of selecting one of the following GPS/Flight Management Systems: Avidyne AFD 550, Boeing Smiths FMS, Collins Pro-line 21/FMS3000, Garmin 430W/530W, Garmin 650/750, Garmin GNX 375 or Garmin 1000.
